The Scrapbook Project: 1. Never define yourself in terms of anyone else

20 minutes.
  1. Cut out the coloured headings from the headings sheet.
  2. Choose a BRIGHT coloured crayon, in a colour you like. Think of a name for your scrapbook. The name should be personal, positive and reflect the fact that the scrapbook is about YOU. Some examples:
    “Jane’s Special Book”
    “My Values”
    “Who I am”
    “Me”
    “John’s Personal Private Life Plan”
  3. On the inside front cover, write the name of your book. If your inside front cover is dark-coloured or patterned, glue a sheet of white paper over it so you can write on it.
  4. Add a photo, picture or representation of you, or of one of your favourite things. If you cant find a picture or item you want to use, make a drawing or write in pencil the name of the item and add it when you have found it.
The picture or item you use on this page should make you feel good whenever you look at it. DO NOT use a picture or representation of a person you know, except yourself, on this page. Here you are defining YOUR scrapbook, about YOU.

Paste (or write) the I Am heading on the first page of your scrapbook. (The single page facing the cover where you have just named your scrapbook.) You can paste the heading anywhere on the page you want, and any way up.

  1. Choose your favourite colour crayon. Anywhere on the page, write your preferred version of your name. That might be your full name, your first name, a nickname, your initials, or any other way in which your prefer to think of yourself or be called.
  2. Take another colour crayon. Anywhere on the page, write 3 words which are very important in how you see yourself.
  3. These words could be about who you are or a life role (Mum, Teacher), feelings you have (Happy, Lonely), things which are important to you (Family, Peace), descriptions of yourself (Tall, Pretty), character traits you have (Friendly, Hard-working) or anything else which describes you to you.
  4. Find 3 media items (pictures etc) which describe you. They might be illustrations of the words you wrote above, or they might be completely different. DO NOT use photographs of yourself here.
